ETSI Approves OSGP for Grid Technologies
ETSI, recognized by the European Union as a European Standards Organization for Information and Communications Technologies, has approved two specifications based on OSGP, the open smart grid protocol put forward by the ESNA industry group. This ETSI acceptance is a major achievement in OSGP being recognized as a European standard for smart metering/smart grid, which will help drive the development and deployment of open, interoperable smart grid technologies in Europe. We applaud ESNA for continuing to execute their mission to build and expand smart grid interoperability standards for a smarter, more reliable grid.  Read the press release

Energizing the Buildings Industry at the AHR Expo

Echelon attended the 64th International Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating (AHR) Exposition in Chicago.  Continuing to demonstrate our commitment to open standards, Echelon announced a new software app for the SmartServer that integrates the world's two leading building automation standards -- LonWorks® and BACnet® systems. (See next story, Echelon Unifies LonWorks® and BACnet® Future-Proofing Smart Buildings). With a positive reception from attendees, Echelon looks forward to continuing to push proven, open-standard and multi-application solutions for the buildings industry.  Read the press release and other announced products at AHR

Echelon Unifies LonWorks and BACnet; Future-Proofing Smart Buildings
A smart building can reduce energy consumption 20%-30% or more while keeping tenants comfortable, productive, and safe; respond in real time to utility requests for reduced demand (further reducing costs); and expand capabilities as new utility programs and technologies become available. At the AHR Expo, Echelon announced a blueprint for sustainable, grid-aware buildings with the following offerings:

  • Open Building Specification Guide – a proven approach to help building professionals define and architect open, energy efficient and grid-aware buildings. Download a copy.

  • LonWorks®/BACnet® Gateway Application – an application that integrates LonWorks and BACnet systems and enables a truly open building architecture. Request a beta trial.

  • OpenLNS Network Operating System – a new, royalty-free network operating system and environment for developing, deploying, and managing building automation and energy management systems and supporting multiple grid-aware applications. Apply for the beta program.

  • Building Energy Management Toolkit – software tools and wizards that enable a multi-site organization to rapidly incorporate third-party devices and multiple applications to build a customized energy management solution. Register for the beta here.

  • Router 5000 Module – based on proven FT5000 technology, this product is used by OEMs to build routers that increase the scalability and survivability of LonWorks®-based smart building networks. Request more information.

City of Hanoi Selects Echelon and ElcomTek for Vietnam's First Smart Streetlight System

Hanoi's new street lighting system will use Echelon's segment controllers and ElcomTek's energy management software in the data center. The initial deployment to about 28,000, or a quarter of the city’s streetlights, will monitor energy consumption, improve public safety, and save energy by adjusting lighting schedules according to seasonal changes. The project is expected to be completed in March. Read the press release.

U.S. Department of Commerce Recognizes Echelon for Export Achievement

In a November 28 ceremony held at San Jose State University in San Jose, California, U.S. Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren presented the Export Achievement Award, sponsored by an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, to Echelon Chairman and CEO Ron Sege.
